Sussex Star Dwayne Smith Is A Big Hit With Rockinghorse

Posted by Lawrence Greenlee

On Wednesday 26th June we headed down to TheBrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground to watch Sussex Sharks batsmen try and beat the world record for the longest distance a cricket ball has ever been hit, which stands at 160 metres.A massive lofted drive by big hitting West Indian international and Sussex star cricketer Dwayne Smith reached 110 metres.

IEP Financial sponsored the cricket ball blitz and for Dwayne’s longest strike the Brighton & Hove business made a £200 donation to Rockinghorse bringing their fundraising total for the charity in 2013 to £2,800.
Director at IEP, Patrick Spencer, said

“The record in Wisden was set in 1856 and is a bit of a monster, especially considering the type of bats and balls they used then! Although the record remains unbroken it was a bit of fun and with Rockinghorse our official charity partner we’re always happy to support their fantastic work in Sussex.”

If you would like to see Dwayne in action when he made the record attempt tune into Cricket AM on Sky Sports 2 on Saturday (20 July) at 8.30am.
