Google Penguin 3.0 Released

Google released the first Penguin update (3.0) for over a year last Friday (17/10). Social media was awash with speculation over the weekend as websites increased and decreased as a result.

A Google representative confirmed the algorithmic update to Search Engine Land on Monday (20/10). This is the sixth version of the Spam busting Penguin to be made live since the first of the updates in April 2012.

It’s early days to see how many sites have been affected, but we believe it will certainly have an impact on the Google landscape as many marketers have been working hard to remove those spammy links from their sites. This will be a good indication of whether those efforts have helped their sites.

Quality!

Since Penguin and previously Panda were introduced the SEO world has changed dramatically, with black hat techniques no longer giving those cheap and often incredibly high yielding results. Overall, however, many marketers have welcomed these changes as it ensures a level playing field and an increase focussed on quality.
